It’s been a year exactly since Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi made his presence felt in India, immediately post his birth. Taimur’s only crime was – he was born in to an influential family to immensely popular parents.

Unlike lakhs of kids, Taimur’s life began under intense media-scrutiny. Poor little kid, a few years down the line, will be bewildered on knowing the stupidity and rucks that was created over his name. Few right-wing outfits threatened to burn effigies of Saif Ali Khan and Taimur’s mommy – Kareena Kapoor. Social media went berserk trolling Saif’s choice of naming Taimur over a rogue Mughal Emperor.

There were many who went so far to claim that Saif is an anti-national and has no regard for India or Indians and Hindus living in India. Few suggested Saif should shift base to Pakistan considering his fondness and liking for Mughal Emperors.

The incessant trolling with abusive language would even shame the worst Mughal Emperor, if he were alive today!

Amidst it all, was a cute little toddler who slowly made his way in our hearts. His chubby cheeks and paparazzi friendly photos spread like wildfire on social media. The same people who made fun of Taimur’s name started calling him the cutest baby ever, which highlighted our hypocrite nature as usual.

One year later, Taimur has been declared as the National Baby of India and an inspiration for aspiring babies who wish to grab front-page headlines. By the end of it, was it even worth it? Why do we still follow the age-old habit of poking our nose in everyone’s business. Don’t we take celebrities for granted and consider them personal entertainers, always at our disposal?

It’s about time we behave as responsible and level-headed Indians who stop taking offence over each and everything. And most importantly, it’s about time we stop misusing social media and trolling celebrities for no reason. Remember, even celebs are human beings and we need to keep in mind that words can cut deeper than swords.

A year later, we would love to hear your views on the controversy over Taimur’s name in the comment section below. Comment right away, for the love of Taimur!
