There are actors who entertain us. And then there are actors who stay with us for years and years to come. SriDevi was certainly that actor who will be remembered by generations of upcoming movie stars and fans, alike.
Lamhe must be quite easily one of the most challenging roles of SriDevi’s careers. Yash Chopra’s Lamhe was much ahead of our times and was met with a lukewarm response at the box office. However, SriDevi’s double role as both, the daughter and the mother earned her rave views and a filmfare trophy of best actress back then.
SriDevi certainly excelled in double roles. Her first double role, a remake of the famous Seeta aur Geeta, is still remembered for her spunky character and iconic song – Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si.
Sri Devi also won an Filmfare award for her remarkable performance in the movie ChaalBaaz.
A comeback that was over a decade in waiting. SriDevi bowled over one and all by her superlative performance in her comeback role in Hindi movies – English Vinglish. Her realistic portrayal of a homemaker struggling for acceptance from her loved ones moved everyone to tears.
Sadma earned SriDevi the first filmfare nomination of her career. She played the role of a mentally challenged girl to perfection. Till this date, the role is regarded as a lesson in acting by budding actors and actresses.
