Indian tourist destinations have always been a hit among filmmakers. Indian locales offer the perfect variety and beauty for filming. Hence, many Indian destinations have always been on the top-priority of Indian directors.

But, did you know that Hollywood filmmakers too have queued up to shoot movies in India. Did you know the following western movies have been shot extensively in India?

  1. Slumdog Millionaire

The Oscar winner Hollywood movie was shot across India and especially in the slums of Dharavi. The Hollywood crew had co-ordinated with Indian technicians to scout and cast actors in India. Slumdog Millionaire had however come under heavy criticism for portraying poverty in India.

  1. Lion

2016-Oscar Nominated movie Lion was the tale of a lost kid who ends up in Australia. The movie was shot in rural areas of India including the metropolitan city – Kolkata. Lion was praised for its cinematography and the way filmmaker beautifully captured real India.

  1. Zero Dark 30

Oscar winning movie – Zero Dark 30 was shot in Chandigarh, which was shown as Pakistan in the movie. The movie went on to win the biggies at the Oscars and was directed by Kathryn Biglow.

  1. A Mighty Heart

Angelina Jolie’s Oscar nominated movie – A mighty heart was shot in India in Pune and Mumbai. The movie chronicled the story of slain US journalist Danielle Pearl. Churchgate station and the Gateway of India were both shown in the movie.

  1. Mission Impossible

Did you know Tom Cruise had visited Mumbai for the Mission Impossible series? Portions of the popular franchise were shot in Colaba and the famous Marine Drive.
