Today marks the death anniversary of the revered Dr. B.R Ambedkar also known as the Father of the Indian Constitution.

The revolutionary leader had worked tirelessly to uplift the downtrodden and the neglected backward castes of India. He also gave a much-needed direction and respect for the scheduled castes and tribes.

His unparalleled efforts for the framework of the Indian Constitution gave our country much-needed blue-print for the functioning of the democracy. A lot is known about the revolutionary leader but here are few facts you probably didn’t know about the Father of the Indian Constitution:

  1. Principal at Law College

Due to the respect he commanded and his contribution to the field of Law, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was also the Principal at Law College at Mumbai.

  1. British East India Company Connection

A little-known fact, Dr. Ambedkar’s ancestors had served in the British East India Company’s Army.

  1. Change in Name

Yes, this is true! Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s real name was – Ambavadekar. However. Dr. Babasaheb’s professor – Dr. Mahadev Ambedkar gave him his own name Ambedkar and got it changed in the official records.

  1. Opposition to Article 370

Contrary to popular belief, Dr. Ambedkar was opposed to the provision of special status of Article 370 to the disputed land of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambedkar was an integral part of the labour in the Viceroy’s Council and he proposed the change in working hours for the benefit of the workers.
