NGO Nyayaa Path filed an application in the New Delhi High Court seeking a ban on AAP advertisements which glorify Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. They say that these advertisements have absolutely no purpose airing especially in other states apart from the national capital and that the party is grossly ‘misusing public funds.’

The plea was mentioned before the bench of justices B D Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva, which was allowed and listed for hearing tomorrow on the urgency ground that ‘public funds are getting depleted by passage of the day’.

The application was mentioned through advocate Aman Panwar and Mudit Gupta who told the bench that “apart from airing large-scale advertisements in the newspapers of Delhi and the national television, the AAP government on July 20 went to the extent of publishing advertisements in several towns and cities throughout India“.

In order to promote its political interests, the Delhi government is blatantly misappropriating public funds for publishing the advertisements in the regions which have no business, whatsoever with the policies and programmes of the Delhi,” the application said.

The Kejriwal-government had on July 12 come out with an advertisement with the tagline “Wo pareshaan karte rahein, hum kaam karte rahein” (they troubled us, but we continued to work). Referring to the recent advertisement published from Mumbai, the petitioner has sought direction to the Centre, lieutenant governor and the Delhi government that its cost be recovered from Kejriwal, who was being glorified by it. The NGO has alleged that the AAP campaign is akin to what Hitler did. “It’s like feeding one hundred lies to the public. Why are advertisements appearing in the newspapers of Mumbai highlighting issues of Delhi? Is it because they want to expand their political campaign for the upcoming elections on taxpayers’ money, which is meant for the people of Delhi,” the NGO has argued.

The petitioner said the Delhi government was ‘constantly violating’ the guidelines by repeatedly airing politically-motivated advertisements on TV, newspapers and radio for promoting the Aam Aadmi Party and its leader Arvind Kejriwal.
