The Kamala Mills fire has brought one doubt to everyone’s mind – why are authorities not more anxious when it comes to outlets that openly violate fire safety standards? Doctors have accepted that a large number of the victims died due to asphyxiation and that can expulsion route have saved their lives. Now, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched on a demolition drive.

The BMC said that they are planning a crackdown on all 30 restaurants in the Kamala Mills compound. Some of the constructions in Lower Parel’s Raghuvanshi Mill compound were also demolished. According to the sources, some portion of the rooftop restaurant ‘1 Above’, where the tragic incident happened, was illegal. A notice was being served by the BMC regarding the illegal construction.  Kamala Mills is considered as one of the commercial hubs of Mumbai and houses of several eateries, commercial outlets, restaurants, and national media organizations.

A 28-year-old woman celebrating her birthday with her friends suffered the most deaths in the fire. This begs the big question – are you safe in your current establishment? Do your residences have enough evacuation routes? But, the most crucial query is, will Mumbai’s civic bodies value the lives of the individuals of this city. For a city that pays such a huge amount of tax. Arvind Sawant, leader of Shiv Sena had lashed out at the BMC and said he would raise the issue in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Hratesh Sanghvi, Jigar Sanghvi and Abhijeet Manka of C Grade Hospitality, which manages the pub, along with his other partners have been booked by Mumbai Police. The fire-fighters took more than three hours to deluge the extreme flames that bounce up in central Mumbai’s nightlife hub. Estimations are that the fire must have started a little after 12.30 am on Friday and spread rapidly.

Shouldn’t BMC and its other remote control which collects commissions on all infrastructures deserve to be purged?
