Another day, another hoax news. This time the news broke out much closer at home as one of India’s most respected Chief Minister – Manohar Parikar was the target of fake news. As per a leading Goan newspaper, Manohar Parikar was undergoing treatment for an advance stage of liver cancer.
The news sent the media and well-wishers in to a frenzy as everybody was concerned for the wellbeing of the senior BJP leader. Also, Narendra Modi’s rushed visit to Lilavati hospital sent the media in to a frenzy.
This brings us to the age-old debate of why we invest so much time over fake news revolving around the well-being of celebrities. Just yesterday, Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone was killed off via another hoax news.
Within minutes news of Sylvester Stallone’s death went viral within minutes. What is it with the keyboard warriors and celebrities that compels them to conveniently kill of any celebrity of their choice?
A few months back, popular Bollywood actor Ayushman Khuranna too was bumped off in a highway accident.
Shouldn’t we take extra caution before spreading such vile news? Shouldn’t we pause and wonder about the concerned families of the celebrities and the stress that they are being put in to because of such fraud news? Also, it’s time that we recheck the authenticity of the news or social media posts before reposting or retweeting.
Everyone from the media fraternity and the internet audience should tweet or write any article responsibly. We would certainly love to hear your views in the comment section below. #BeFearless
