You must have heard the name Insha Mushtaq a few months back. Possibly, you must have also seen her injured pellet-ridden face plastered all across the newspapers.
Insha Mushtaq became the face of the brutal pellet gun attacks in Kashmir. Insha hails from Kashmir’s Shopian district. She had lost her vision after getting injured in the merciless pellet gun attacks by the Indian Police Forces. It’s been a year and half since the day Insha lost her vision. Yet, Insha didn’t let this obstacle come in her way as she cleared her Class X Board Exams.
She still needs to clear her Maths paper in the coming few months but will be allowed to take admissions for her 11th standard class.
Insha was standing by the window, inside her house, when the pellets struck her eye and blinded her for life. Despite multiple surgeries, she didn’t regain her vision. Not the one to give up, Insha with the help of her classmates, used to walk all the way to school. She also appeared for her examinations with the help of an assistant.
Though her life won’t be the same, her parents and neighbours are elated by her astounding success despite of the paramount handicap.
Even Former Chief Minister- Omar Abdullah – took to Twitter to congratulate Insha for her performance in the board exams. Omar tweeted: ‘A special shout out to young Insha who was blinded by pellets during the 2016 protests & has cleared her 10th examinations today. May Allah keep rewarding your hard work & efforts.”
Even though the violence in Kashmir remains a controversial and debatable issue, we surely are proud of Insha’s amazing feat in her academic career. We wish Insha all the best for the future.
