Maharashtra crime decreases thanks to demonetisation…

Based on per lakh population in Maharashtra, Mumbai has topped the crime chart in 2016 followed by Navi Mumbai and Thane till November however demonetisation has changed everything. After November 2016 the crimes related to money has decreased tremendously according to the police and crime statistics.

Since 2011 to 2015 Mumbai recorded 1.8 lakh instances of crime, followed by Pune (67,609), Thane (60,859), Nagpur (47,143), and Navi Mumbai (28,098). The population of these cities are 1.26 crore, 57 lakh, 51 lakh, 27 lakh and 21 lakh, according to crime statistics released by State CID.

 In Maharashtra since January 2016 Mumbai has recorded 340 cases per on lakh population after Nagpur which recorded 407 cases followed by Thane at 299, Navi Mumbai with 280 and Pune at 267. The Police said that however since Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced demonetisation crime related to money like extortion, robbery and theft have decreased. There have been several instances where robbers have broken into shops and houses and left without cash. Although the cases have been registered there has not been actual robbery of booty. Following the demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 bank notes, murder rates have come down by half in Mumbai.

The officers said that the crime like extortion has also come down, “There have been no complaints from builders etc about extortion have stopped since the past three months“. The police officers have also said that even the movement of drugs has collapsed in Mumbai apart for instances of Air Intelligence Unit seizures.
