There was a time when the term “Hip Hop” was associated worldwide with the likes of 2pac, Biggy Smalls, Eminem and 50 Cent. As our nation was hit by the rap wave a decade earlier, Bohemia was synonymous to Punjabi rap. But now the underground rap scene in the country is emerging and how!
Everyone has witnessed the electrifying trailer of “Gully Boy” by now. The Ranveer- Alia starrer is based on the story of Vivian Fernandes aka “Divine”. His journey from the slums of Mumbai to becoming the national sensation is quite remarkable.
He started in 2011, as an underground artist. He rose to fame after his single “Yeh mera Bombay”. Since then he has collaborated with composers like Sneha Khanwalkar, Nucleya and Amit Trivedi. His track “Kaam-25” was part of the most popular Indian Netflix series, “Sacred Games”.
His story has inspired a lot of youngsters from Mumbai and all over India. We are eagerly waiting for the film and the soundtrack. We hope our country finally gets to experience the “Asli Hip Hop”.Apna Time Aa Gaya!
