Over a decade ago, India was on an award-winning spree at International beauty pageants. From Sushmita Sen to Priyanka Chopra, India excelled at mega pageants at the International level. Sadly, over the past few years, India failed to even make it to the Top 5.
Even though Mr. Shashi Tharoor might not have found the achievement noteworthy, we Indians, are certainly proud of the Haryana girl – Manushi Chillar.
This stupendous achievement ends the 17-year-old jinx of India’s dry run at the Miss World pageant. It was 17 years ago that Priyanka Chopra won the coveted crown.
Manushi also was the joint winner of the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ award for her project on spreading awareness on Menstrual Hygiene. To further this cause, Manushi visited over 20 villages and also interacted with over 5000 women.
Manushi believes the Miss World crown should not be viewed only as a mere stepping stone for entering Bollywood but stands for much more than that! Manushi had to miss out on one year of her education to participate in the Miss World Contest.
She stands by the motto – ‘When you cease to dream, you cease to live!’
What stood out during her entire journey to winning the crown was her penultimate answer on the question ‘which profession deserves the highest salary?’ Watch the video to know her amazing reply!
Manusi Chillar, we are proud of you! We wish you all the best for your future journey!
