We have seen some strange contests over the years. From blindfolded hide and seeks to drunk boxing, we have seen it all.

But the newest sport in the offing should surely tops the cake. A JMM legislator (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) recently organized a kissing contest on Saturday evening. The contest was organized as a part of the festivities organized in Dumaria Mela, a 2-day fair, which has been an annual tradition for over last 37 years.

The kissing contest saw enthusiastic participation from over 15 couples who locked lips in the presence of thousands. The weird contest was organized with the noble intention of curbing the rising number of divorce cases among the tribal community. Also, the legislator sought to bring down the number of differences among couples.

A BJP leader expressed his objection over the bizarre ritual and said that it was the strategy of the Christian legislator to westernize Hindu culture by imposing such weird rituals. The BJP leader has decided to stage a protest the legislator until he apologizes in public for the same.

Apparently, the contest had prizes worth Rs. 900, Rs. 700 and Rs. 500 respectively for the winners and runners-up respectively. Several tribal groups unanimously have lodged a protest the tribal leader. The tribals had earlier witnessed dancing and singing contests but this contest was certainly a new phenomenon for everyone present.  JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya refused to speak on the issue.
