Each year, people across the world come up with some of the other New Year resolutions. They sphere from hitting the gym and trying to get fitter to maintain a budget in order to save some money. These resolutions, if kept, are tremendous for our personal lives as they help us grow and we end the year feeling fitter – financially, emotionally, and mentally. – then we are at the beginning.

However, in 2018, with news of our approaching calamity hanging over our heads, it is necessary that we attempt to reduce our carbon footprint. To prevent such hazardous damage to the surrounding, here is what we can do to help the planet in our own simple way.

Minimise water and food wastage: Make an effort to use all the parts of vegetables and fruits – angle the skin of your veggies into compost. Reduce the amount of trash you produce is the way to a cleaner and greener environment. As per the reports, one kilogram of cattle meat requires 15,000 litres of water, 30 kilograms of CO2 and 5m2 of land.

Avoid buses and cars, start walking: Walking is not only good for health and easy in the pocket; one can acutely reduce their carbon footprint by avoiding the call of Uber and Ola apps. Taking public transport like trains and buses is preferable to cabs but if the distance can be covered by foot, buses or auto rickshaws can be avoided as well.

Turn off the lights, unplug the electronics which are not in use: We have all been taught this – in order to be responsible citizens, we must definitely try avoiding misuse of electricity. It is always recommended that one can turn off the lights when they are not in use.

While we go about our daily lives, the changes which are occurring on our planet may not appear destructive. We look back about how air-conditioners were excessive in our cities in the month of December and yet, nowadays, we use them almost as repeatedly as we do during the month of May.

The burden is on all of us if we wish to protect the future of the human race. The planet will do just fine without us. On the other hand, humans, won’t do as well.
