India celebrated its 70th Independence Day with great fervour and fanfare and so did our favourite Bollywood celebrities.

But did you ever think that wishing the nation on Independence Day can land a celebrity in trouble?

The celebrity in question is none other than our foreign export Priyanka Chopra or PC, as popularly known. While PC was just getting over unending rude tweets criticizing her for wearing a dress while meeting Prime Minister Modi in Berlin, she was faced with another slew of hate messages from nationalist trolls.

Priyanka Chopra dedicated a sweet instagram boomerang video wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day. However, little did she know that our nationalist keyboard warriors will have a problem with her sporting a western attire (top and jeans) while draping our Indian flag around her.

What followed next were a barrage of hate messages criticizing PC for her attire choice and questioning her for not opting for the more traditional Indian Saree or Salwar Kameez instead.

Some not-so-friendly commentators also went to the extent of asking Priyanka not to ever step foot in India again.

Thankfully, there were a bunch of kind liberal users who supported the Quantico actress for proudly flaunting the Indian flag while some also stressed on the importance of freedom of choice and expression.

It is to be noted that Indian actresses have recently come in the crosshairs of aggressive trolls for wearing skimpy or slightly western outfits. Quite recently, popular actresses such as Esha Gupta and Deepika Padukone were criticized for their choice of dressing for a magazine photoshoot.

Are we turning in to a bunch of over-Sanskaari trolls who can’t stand a woman having the right to express herself with her choice of clothes?
