Salman Khan resorted to Twitter to vent out his thoughts, defending Yakub Memon, the death row convict of 1993 Mumbai blasts case. In a series of tweets Salman Khan came out in support of Yakub Memon condemning his brother and absconding terrorist Tiger Memon. He received serious flak from political parties and from his twitter followers as well, following which he had deleted his tweets and issued an “unconditional apology” for the same.

Salman Khan on Sunday had tweeted,

Hang Tiger. Brother is being hanged for Tiger. Arre Where is Tiger? Get tiger hang him. Parade him not his brother.

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan superstar even called Yakub an innocent man and tweeted,

1 innocent man killed is killing the humanity.

Salim Khan, Salman’s father, said that the tweets do not mean anything he said,

Whatever Salman has written is totally meaningless. I do not support it. His tweets are wrong.

BJP’s youth wing planned a protest over the tweets, outside Khan’s Bandra residence, Mumbai BJP president; Ashish Shelar met Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao and asked him to cancel actor’s bail.

Very disappointing to see Salman Khan ask for release of Yakub Memon. His (Salman’s) bail should be cancelled on the basis of the support for crime,” he said in a tweet.

Yakub Memon worked on the mission of mass murder. His sympathy can only come from fellow convict who fails to appreciate mercy shown to him,” Ashish Shelar added.

In what seems like a late night drunk rant, Salman Khan even tweeted out to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to share details about Tiger’s whereabouts and if he is currently hiding in the neighboring country.

Salman later retracted the tweet saying,

I had tweeted that Tiger Memon should hang for his crimes and I stand by it. What i also said is that Yakub Memon should not hang for him. I have not said or implied that Yakub Memon is innocent. I have complete faith in the judicial system of our country. Many lives were lost in the Mumbai blasts. And I have repeatedly said the loss of one innocent life is equal to the loss of all humanity. My dad called & said I should retract my tweets as they have the potential to create misunderstanding. I hereby retract them. I would like to unconditionally apologise for any misunderstanding I may have created unintentionally. I also strongly condemn those who are claiming my tweets are anti-religious. I have always said I respect all faiths and I always will.

Mumbai BJP president and Bandra MLA Ashish Shelar responded to the apology saying,

After Salman’s apology, I have left it to the court to decide what should be done with him.

He also tweeted,

Stupidity as a habit is bad. But film industry has to introspect how they have made such a fool their icon.
