The army foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists in Mehndar tehsil region Jammu & Kashmir. During the scrimmage with Border Security Forces, most wanted terrorists Anwar Khan was shot dead; Khan was responsible for the brutal beheading of Lance Naik Hemraj in Poonch sector back in January 2013.
The slain terrorist that has been identified as Anwar Khan who was a reconnaissance expert and was acting as a guide to a 15 man team comprising of LeT terrorists and Pakistani Rangers led by ISI Subedar Jabbar khan on the fateful day when they crossed over to the Indian territory through the Poonch sector and it is believed that it was Anwar who had carried out the beheading of Lance Naik Hemraj. He was preposterously awarded a sum of 5 lakh rupees for the despicable act by the ISI. Khan was also wanted in the beheading of an Army Captain in Krishna Ghati area in 1996.
There was a unanimous uproar in army ranks for revenge and retribution after the incident with then Chief of Army Staff Gen. Bikram Singh promising the family of the martyred soldier that, “His sacrifice will not be in vain.” The death of terrorist Anwar Khan by the hands of the army would not be able bring our soldier back but would atleast offer some respite and closure to the family of Lance Naik Hemraj.
