The optimism environment of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s four-day visit to India is quite understandable. India’s fine-tuned responses to the marked shifts in the fluid world of geography are underlined by a specific objective: Counterfeit and boosting ties with countries that serve its best interests. In the present dynamics, Delhi has realized that Israel has a vital role to play in certain key areas, such as trade, defence, agriculture, and tourism. The high-profile officers accompanying Netanyahu will boost up possibilities to deepen commercial ties, with their Indian counterparts.

At a time when the Indian economy is looking forward to Foreign Direct Investment in single-brand retail, construction, aviation, Israel’s eagerness to engage with India not only send a positive vibe to the globe, but also lends heft to Delhi’s measures of making India an appealing destination for global investors, in terms of ease of doing business. Though India had settled diplomatic relations with Israel in 2002, there was a complicated chemistry, often termed by exchanges that were intentionally kept under the radar to avoid diplomatic fallout with other states.

The Palestinian cause, to which India has been lined up since the days of Jawaharlal Nehru, was the centerpiece of New Delhi’s West Asia model and often influenced its terms of engagement with Israel. PM Modi gave it a new direction and hiked when he visited Israel last year. There’s no denying Israel’s many acts of unity during India’s hour of crisis. Even before the Kargil war, Israel had stood by India during the 1962 war with China.

The Congress’s steadfast refusal to acknowledge Israel’s contributions were motivated by domestic concerns – electoral politics to be precise – since it didn’t want to be seen as pro-Israeli by Indian Muslims. Now, finally, with the shedding of hypocrisy and doublespeak under the Modi dispensation, India will likely register tremendous gains from this association.
